Alexander Drew was a child during the Spanish Influenza outbreak of 1918 and was almost one of its victims. His mother, a woman of some influence in Philadelphia’s social circles, took her dying son to a man rumored to have powers over life and death. The man – a vampire named Edgar tried to dissuade Mrs. Drew but she insisted. Alexander was spared death but would forever inhabit a child’s body. Shortly after being turned, he moved to Edgar’s house when his mother proved unable to tend to the baby vampire’s needs. Edgar was a member of the Authority and involved Alexander from an early age. Alexander shared Roman’s love of what was then becoming one of the more popular sports in the United States: golf. The two would hit the links together and discuss politics, a ritual they kept private from the other Chancellors. Alexander was very bright and charismatic and rose in the Authority’s ranks, becoming Chancellor in 1982. He worked diligently to push Roman’s mainstreaming agenda in the Scandinavian countries, as well as the more liberal countries in and Central America. Normally, turning a human child is considered cruel by all but the most mercenary vampires, and child-sized vampires are very rare with no more than a hundred or so in existence.

FYI: The video shows Chancellor Drew feeding on a human on a rooftop with the unmistakable Seattle skyline in the background

In BR’s extra two FYI’s are given in S5E5:

The Babcock Hospital for Insane has been shut down since late 1950s, after controversial procedures such as electroshock therapy and experimental drugs caused the facility to lose its funding. It was briefly used by the state as a hospital for the criminally insane, but patients were transferred elsewhere shortly after, leaving the once beautiful edifice abandoned to deteriorate. The morgue is not the only place the Babcock Hospital for the Insane would keep dead bodies. There is also a graveyard in the west yard, where patients who died in treatment were buried.

So some speculations: Was this information a foreshadowing to what is to come in S6? And will any of “our” vampires be subjected to this?

Photo

Photo

A warm and heartfelt welcome, new followers:) Sit down, lean back and enjoy!

ohiogurl:

nikolablogs:

The iStake is probably my favorite True Blood invention so far. Not only do Alexander Skarsgard and Stephen Moyer look so hilariously uncomfortable in what looks like Tom of Finland memorabilia, but the fact that when Bill asks Molly the Technician how the iStakes are triggered she replies, “There’s an app for that” is the core of why I love True Blood. It is funny, current and really raises the stakes (ha!) for the characters.

I loved Molly! The actress who plays her, Tina Majorino, is one of my faves, and has been since I first saw her in “Corinna, Corinna” (when she was about 10).

I really like Tina, as well. In various projects. :)

And I am STILL not over Molly being killed! She had potential and a very fun dynamic with Eric. Boo!

According to BR’s info: After listening to Roman complain about the mess and danger of staking prisoners, Molly took it upon herself to find a cleaner and safer way to carry out executions. The first prototype was built without the Lilith symbol engraved on the front, but Salome insisted adding the image to the next iStake model.
<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml>

A faerie safe house is a “place” that exists outside of the earthly plane, kind of like a pocket in the fabric of space that allows faeries to be hidden from any vampires. Entering or exiting only works for someone with faerie blood in their veins, unless physically accompanied by a faerie.

After the Sophie-Anne affair, Hadley and Hunter were contacted by the faeries in charge of rounding up all human-faerie hybrids. Since Hadley could not travel to the plane, she was put in the protection of some faeries on the human plane. They eventually made their way to the faerie club, a growing haven for earthbound fae. During Hadley’s time with the faeries, she’s picked up quite a bit about her (and Sookie’s) lineage, some of which she wishes she could forget…

askarslibrary:

Dieter Braun was born in Konigsburg, Prussia in 1770. His was a noble family who expected him to continue their dynasty. However, once Dieter begun his higher education, he became estranged from his family and fell in with a group of intellectuals centered around the philosopher Immanuel Kant. Dieter eschewed material possessions and begun to live as an ascetic, dedicating his life to scholarly pursuits. This all changed when Prussia’s stability and peaceful stasis became threatened by Napoleon Bonaparte. Dieter wanted to do his part to defend the Prussian way of life, so he enlisted. At the battle of Jena-Auerstedt, the Prussian army was taking a heavy beating. Dieter, fighting as a foot soldier, found himself behind enemy lines outmanned five-to-one. Miraculously he overcame his enemies and returned home only slightly wounded. He refused accolades and medals, wanting only to return to his studies in the newly subjugated Prussia. He was surprised one night to find someone waiting for him: a female vampire named Collette. Her human companion had been killed by Dieter and in a strange bit of logic, she felt Dieter to be the only suitable replacement. Dieter was by nature a curious man and granted her request. They began a relationship that resulted in Dieter being turned four years later.

stillhidden:

mametupa:

Looks like Emma is being saved, and is that Lafayette by the car?

Yes that’s him, Its looks like the LVTF are going after every supe. Run Emma run!

I wonder who else is with Emma. The person in the middle looks like they need some help moving, but the big hair doesn’t look familiar. Glad to see Lafayette in the thick of things.

I’m pretty sure the person in the middle is the new character Nicole Wright. That’s her hair all right. She’s been described as a do-gooder bleeding heart, so perhaps she’s helping innocent supes escape capture? And I’m guessing the other person is Sam?

That makes sense.

Yes, but it looks more like two women, especially the ass on the one to the left so probably not Sam as he’s not a skinwalker. On the other hand, the darkness might confuse a bit too I totally agree about the one in the middle, good thinking.

switchbladekiller:

In the Gaelic legends and Irish folklore, the origin of Ireland’s kings is described as going back to Biblical times and Noah’s greatgreatgrandson Fénius Farsaid.

This Fénius Farsaid – a.k.a. Phoenius, Phenius, Féinus; Farsa, Farsaidh – is a legendary king of Scythia . Fénius was a son of Boath and Boath was a son of Magog, Noah’s grandson. Fénius is said to have created the Ogham alphabet * as well as the Gaelic language. Sometimes, the legends differ, like with the Tower of Babel. In the Lebor Gabála Érenn– LGE – (11th century), Fénius is said to have built the tower together with 71 other chieftains and then he travelled to Scythia after it collapsed. In the recensions of the Lebor Gabála Érenn, Fénius and his son Nél instead journeyed to the tower.

This Nél, who knew many languages, married the daughter of the Egyptian Pharaoh Cingris, Scota. Together they had a son, Goidel Glas.

Goídel Glas (Gathelus) is also said to have created the Gaelic language. An interesting anecdote in the LGE tells how Gaidel Glas was cured of a serpent’s stingwhen Moses made fervent prayer and touched his rod upon the lad’s wound. An inserted verse in an earlier passage says of Gaidel: “green were his arms and his vesture”.O’Clery’s redaction of the Lebor Gabála adds that the snake bite left a green ring on the boy, from which he earned his nickname of Gaidel Glas (meaning “Green”).

Goídel’s descendants, the Gaels, undergo a series of trials and tribulations that are clearly modelled on those with which the Israelites are tried in the Old Testament. They flourish in Egypt at the time of Moses and leave during the Exodus; they wander the world for four hundred and forty years before eventually settling in the Iberian Peninsula – today’s Spain and Portugal. There, Goídel’s descendant Breogán founds a city called Brigantia.

Breogán (Brigantos MaccoBrattae in Gallaic), was a mythical king as well. His sons were Ith and Bile and Bile was the father of Mil Espaine.

According to Lebor Gabála Érenn (“The Book of the Taking of Ireland”, also called “The Book of Conquests” or “The Book of Invasions”), king Breogán constructed in Brigantium a massive tower of such great height that his sons Ith and Bile could see a distant green shore from its top. The glimpse of that distant green land enticed them to sail north to Ireland. Once there, they were received by the Tuatha Dé Danann (an ancient tribe who occupied Ireland before the Celts), who ambushed them and managed to kill one of Breogan’s sons, Ith. Decades later, Míl Espáine took vengeance upon the Tuatha Dé Danann and invaded Ireland with the intention of defeating them and settling in Ireland.

This tale is mostly described in the last chapter of the Lebor Gabála Érenn in reference to the Milesians or “Sons of Míl” who, were the last wave of invaders according to Irish mythology.

A similar story about a monk who saw a green island from the top of the tower of Brigantia was written in the ninth or tenth century in Galicia. The manuscript is called Trezenzonii de Solistitionis Insula Magna (“Trezenzon the Monk and the Big Island”).

Galicia itself is sometimes described poetically as the “Home” or “Nation” of Breogán (or, in Galician, the fogar, or nazón de Breogán). The land is so described in the anthem of Galicia, “Os Pinos”.

* The Auraicept is one of the three main sources of the manuscript tradition about Ogham, the others being In Lebor Ogaim and De dúilib feda na forfed. A copy of In Lebor Ogaim immediately precedes the Auraincept in the Book of Ballymote, but instead of the BríatharogamCon Culainn given in other copies, there follows a variety of other “secret” modes of ogham. The Younger Futhark are also included, as ogam lochlannach “ogham of the Norsemen”.

Similar to the argument of the precedence of the Gaelic language, the Auraicept claims that Fenius Farsaidh discovered four alphabets, the Hebrew,Greek and Latin ones, and finally the ogham, and that the ogham is the most perfected because it was discovered last. The text is the origin of the tradition that the ogham letters were named after trees, but it gives as an alternative possibility that the letters are named for the 25 members of Fenius’ school.

Part one of the family tree is found here.

mametupa:

This is a very disturbing speech on many levels, especially as it is so close to what happened to Jewish businesses in Nazi-Germany.

When the Nazis came into power, they decided to make Germany Aryan and as part of this, they passed the Nuremberg Laws, where the Aryan paragraph meant Jews were early on largely excluded from public life. By January 1, 1938, German Jews were prohibited from operating businesses and trades, and from offering goods and services. And from there on, things grew worse and culminated with the Kristallnacht on 9-10 November 1938.

If what we’ll see in TB is a modern version of this, I guess Pam was right, claiming that “One of the worst things about being immortal is having to watch the same stupid scenario happen over and over. It’s usually the humans, though.”

Our previous posts about nazis and TB can be found here.

Just replace the world “vampires” with another minority - colored people, muslims, homosexuals, gipsies, jews, communists, etc. - and this speech becomes frighteningly real. And up to date, sadly.

Creating a social emergency, magnifying it without analyzing the reasons and contexts behind it, and feeding the population’s fears and anxieties is what reactionary governments need to dictate inhuman and heavy handed measures. When people are afraid and persuaded that a gigantic (social, economical, political) crisis is threatening their lives and possessions, they suspend their judgement and critical skills and entirely entrust their leaders. So they give a free pass to whatever fuckery their governments decide to force feed them, all too certain that such a dramatic emergency requires dramatic measures. And this tactic is unfortunately widely common even today, in our highly civilized countries.

It really is and another reason TB is more than “just” a vampire story.
